THE HOUSE

Casa Aranci is located in the quiet countryside of the Birgi district in Marsala,  famous for Kitesurfing and the beauty of nature, among olive trees and lush vineyards.

Built in 1898, the structure can accommodate up to 9/10 people.

The three apartments available to guests have names that recall the Sicilian dialect: Supra (the 1st floor), sutta (the ground floor) and "U sularu" (the mezzanine). You can decide to live the entire structure exclusively or choose one of the three areas, making them independent of each other.

The property is located 4 km from the "V.Florio" airport of Trapani-Birgi, 1 km from the beautiful beach of San Teodoro and the Kite centres and 14 km from the centre of Marsala.

SUTTA

U SULARU

SUPRA

In Sicilian it means "under". The ground floor can accommodate 4 people, there are two large double bedrooms with private bathroom and a very comfortable living area with an equipped kitchen.

The most "rustic" environment of the house is "the attic". A raised double bed, a single bed with a manger from the 1800s, very ancient wooden doors, the view on the roofs with the ancient tiles baked by the sun and ... other surprises will welcome you in this area available to guests.

It is the master apartment with the original and fine Sicilian majolica floors of the nineteenth century and a breathtaking view of the Stagnone lagoon and the sunsets with the Egadi Islands in the background.

OUTDOOR SPACES

Outdoor spaces consist of a convenient private car park, a large central courtyard, an outdoor shower, a barbecue, a wood-burning oven, a relax area among laurel plants, a terrace overlooking the sunset, the citrus garden, the ancient "Greca" grape pergola etc. The outdoor spaces of Casa Aranci are many and all suggestive.

the history

For over 120 years, a family from the small local peasant bourgeoisie, the Passalacqua family, lived in Casa Aranci. A simple family, founded on healthy and authentic values. Thanks to the love for memories of the past, the Passalacqua family has preserved objects, photos and documents that today allow guests to experience a journey in a Sicily of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.

Casa Aranci was built in 1898 by GiovanVito Passalacqua and became, after the marriage, the home of the first male son, Giacomo who lived here with his family: his wife Giuseppa Licari, his daughter Vincenza, his son GiovanVito and the little Vito.

The family owned about 15 hectares of land in the Birgi area and its surroundings, all cultivated almost exclusively in vineyards. The grapes (Catarratto, Grillo, Ansonica and Grecanico) harvested were taken to the warehouses attached to the house and here, after pressing, the must was collected in large oak and chestnut barrels. The sale of wine, bottled or in bulk, represented the main economic income of the family that could be considered sufficiently wealthy.

In 1941 the eldest son GiovanVito received the enlistment letter and after a short period of training in Perteole in Friuli, he was sent to fight in Russia in September 1942 with the 277th infantry regiment. GiovanVito has not returned since the war in Russia.

The disappearance of GiovanVito brought deep sadness to the family that never stopped, at least until the 50s, looking for him. Giacomo, heartbroken and deprived of the help of his eldest son, continued the wine business until his death in 1962. His wife Giuseppa, affected by depression due to the loss of her son, was cared for first by her daughter Vincenza and then by her son Vito until her death in 1994.

After Giacomo's death, the management of the company passed into the hands of his two sons Vincenza and Vito. The latter decided to directly manage part of the plots and dedicated himself to some of his passions such as music, agricultural and economic studies. Vincenza, on the other hand, with the help of trusted workers, carried out grape production by becoming a partner in the Birgi Social Winery.

Vincenza and Vito passed away in the early years of the 2000s. The Passalacqua company passed into the hands of Vincenza's nephew, Gianluca Parrinello. In the last few years, he and his family have decided to enhance his grandmother's old house and the vineyards he inherited, in the memory and respect of those who made great sacrifices between those walls and those lands, with so much sweat, tears and love.

FAVIGNANA - MARETTIMO – LEVANZO

The closest beach to Casa Aranci is the suggestive beach of San Teodoro. There is "La Torre", a small bay from which, on foot in the very low waters of the Stagnone, you can reach the Long Island famous for the "pink water" of its salt tanks.

Taking the hydrofoil from the port of Marsala or Trapani you will be able to reach the beautiful Egadi islands in about 30 minutes. Here you will find a crystal clear sea, seabeds rich in fish, caves to explore etc.

A few km from Casa Aranci there is the nature reserve of the Stagnone lagoon. Here, for over twenty years, several Kitesurfing schools have been built and the athletes in action give wonderful acrobatics to the curious who observe them from the ground. For those who love archaeology, by taking a boat, you can visit the ancient Phoenician city of Motya.

ERICE

If the day is particularly hot you can have some cool at "Lu munte", that is, the summit of Mount Erice. It is a medieval village that with its narrow streets (be careful not to wear shoes with heels!), small courtyards and various architectural styles (Arabic, Norman, Gothic, Baroque, Art Nouveau) will make you relive suggestive atmospheres of a distant past. To climb Mount Erice you can use the cable car located in Trapani, about 30 minutes from Casa Aranci. The climb will also allow you to enjoy a breathtaking view.
